Japanese Adverb Lesson

Meaning:

「やはり」means “as I thought”, “still”.

Note: 「やはり」 can be written as 「やっぱり」 too. 「やはり」 is more polite than 「やっぱり」.

Examples:

彼かれは頭あたまがよいがやはり嫌きらいだ。
He’s intelligent, but I still don’t like him.

それがやはり気きにかかる。
I am still concerned about that.

やはり返へん事じはなかった。
No answer still.

それでもやはり芸げい術じゅつは嫌きらいだ。
Still, I don’t like art.

やはり来らい週しゅうが最さい後ごでしたね。
Just as I thought, next week will be the last, won’t it?

それは、やはり無理むりでしたね。
As I thought, that was impossible.

やはり彼かれは悪人あくにんではない。
As I thought, he is not a bad person.

あなたはやはり寝ねてしまった。
As I thought, you fell asleep.

やはり女性じょせいのお客きゃくさまが多おおい。
As I thought, we have a lot of female customers.

やはり彼かれらは海外かいがいでも注ちゅう目もくされているのですね。
As I thought, they’re attracting interest even overseas.
