In this lesson,I will teach you how to convert Japanese verbs to Noun Form.

How to convert Japanese Verbs to Noun Form?

Verb TypeHow to convert
type-one verbchange the u-hiragana to i-hiragana,

Example:
う→
type-two verbjust let the る in the end go.

Example:
べる→
type-three verbjust let the する in the end go.

Example:
べんきょうする→べんきょう

Examples:

Note:

An easier way to change a verb to the noun is: add の or こと in the end. If you want to know the difference between の and こと, you can click here.

う→うこと・うの
たべべる→たべべること・たべべるの
べんきょうする→べんきょうすること・べんきょうするの

      I think it’s not necessary for now because other forms are not often used.If you master these four forms, It’s not hard for you to master other forms.

  5. Heyo, I’m trying to learn japanese as a hobby, and I’m using many sites as a source.
    Not trying to butter up to You, but honestly the way you present everything is very appealing and easy to absorb.

    So now that I said all that, a small suggestion, perhaps you’d like to incorporate “Present progressive”(書いて いる) and “Past progressive”(書いて いた) to the course?

    And of course, thanks for everything! 😀

  6. Oh if it’s already on the website, then You don’t have to, I’m not there yet, so I didn’t know 😀
    Though having all the Verb forms in one place would be really nice
    (in fact just a hyperlink that would lead You to that chapter would really come in handy 🙂 )
