Kanji 9: 九

Meaning:

In Japanese,九 means “nine”.

Onyomiきゅう、く

How to write it:


Origin:

The original meaning of 九 is elbow, so it looks like an elbow, right?
But now the meaning of 九 is nine and it has nothing to do with elbow, so we made a new kanji to stand for elbow, which is ひじ,you will learn it in later lessons.

Note:
You can remember 九 as “My elbow is nine inches thick”.
