N5 Kanji Course

Kanji 7: 七

Meaning:

In Japanese,七 means “seven”.

How to read it:

Kunyomiなな、なの
Onyomiしち

How to write it:

Origin:

七 is the origin of kanji 切(切 means the verb “to cut”),which is combined by 七 and 刀(刀 means “knife”)。
And at first the kanji 七 is the same as the kanji 十(十 means “ten”),so we changed 七 a little bit to differ from 十,you can remember 七 by the sentence “I cut the board for seven times”,and the shape I cut looks like 七.
