Meaning

In Japanese,強 means “strong”.

How to read it:

Kunyomi:つよ、こわ、したた、し
Onyomi:きょう、ごう

Kunyomi:
強(つよ)い→strong
手強い(てごわい)→tough
強(したた)か→strong
強(し)いる→to force somebody to do something

Onyomi:
強敵(きょうてき)→strong enemy
強盗(ごうとう)→robbery

Origin:

強=弘+虫,弘 means “big”,and 虫 means “insect”, big insect is strong,so it stands for “strong”.
