Onyomi:

昨日(さくじつ)→yesterday(more formal than きのう)
昨晩(さくばん)→last night
昨年(さくねん)→last year

Origin:

昨=日+乍, 日 means “sun”, 乍 means “just now”. The sun set just now so today will be “yesterday” soon.
So 昨 means “last”.
