Meaning

In Japanese,並 means “to line up”.

Kunyomi:なみ、なら
Onyomi:へい

並(なみ)→average
並(なら)ぶ→to line up
並(なら)べる→to put side by side
並(なら)びに→and

Onyomi:
並列(へいれつ)する→to stand in line

Origin:

You can see two people lining up.
So 並 means “to line up”.
