Meaning:

「ほとんど」 means “almost”, “hardly”, “next to”.


Examples:

ほとんどわった?
Are you almost finished?

ほんはほとんどない。
There are almost no books.

かれはほとんどはたらかない。
He hardly works.

わたしはほとんどおよげない。
I can hardly swim.

ほとんどぜんかった。
I understood almost everything.

それはほとんどのうだ。
It is next to impossible.

それはほとんど関係かんけいない。
That hardly mattered.

バケツにほとんどみずがない。
There’s almost no water in the bucket.

トムはほとんどこくしない。
Tom is almost never late.

テレビはほとんどません。
I almost never watch TV.

さくはほとんどねむれなかった。
I hardly slept last night.

ごとはほとんどわりました。
The work is almost over.

このいぬはほとんどなんでもべる。
This dog eats almost anything.

わたし彼女かのじょとほとんどわなかった。
I almost never met her.

Note:

ほとんど can be used as a Noun.
It means “almost all”.

その事故じここったとき、バスの乗客じょうきゃくのほとんどがねむっていた。
Almost all of the passenger in the bus were asleep when the accident happened.
